Memorial Weekend at the Cabin

As always, we spent Memorial Weekend at our cabin.  It was a wonderful weekend.  Darren and Brian were both up at Don & Jinx's cabin with their families and it was so fun to have so much family around.  It was so cool to see a half dozen kids driving around on 4-wheelers having a great time together!!

Eric is getting very good at driving the 4-wheeler on his own.  He practiced driving back and forth on our property for hours and LOVED it!

We did some fishing with the experts, Uncle Darren & Uncle Brian.  The boys all caught fish!!!

The Barnhisel 4-wheeling gang!!

Such a BEAUTIFUL place!!

The boys (all 4 of them) had some fun playing football also.  It was fun to watch!

Hello Colors ... Goodbye Cabin

We went up to the cabin this weekend to see the fall colors and were blessed to be there at the perfect time!  The colors were gorgeous!!

And Chunky even got to do some 4-wheeling with us this time.  He did well.

This was our last time up this year which is sad. :)  See you next year cabin.

The Ultimate Fortress

The boys have been begging for a clubhouse at the cabin for awhile now.  So this weekend Dave took up some supplies and we went to work on it.  Our friends, Zac & Rebecca Dailey and their four girls came up and spent the weekend with us and helped build what the kids named "The Ultimate Fortress".

The kids made a board for all visitors to sign in on.  Their first visitors to sign in were their cousins Weylen and Cole and Aunt Jodee.  Aunt Ginger and Missy (the dog) followed later that evening.  Hopefully the board will continue to fill with more visitors.

Memorial Weekend at the Cabin

Memorial Weekend generally marks the beginning of cabin season for us.  This weekend was no different, so on Friday we headed up to the cabin.  This winter has been so mild that many of the quakies already had leaves on them which was unusual.  But, despite the mild winter, we got surprised by some crazy weather at the cabin this weekend.  It was cool the whole time, starting to warm up a bit today (Monday).  But we got snowed on most days which was nuts.  Nothing that stuck, but definitely cold.  So we didn't do as much 4-wheeling as we normally do.  We did manage to get out on a really fun ride this morning with Lance, Jodee and cousins Cole & Weylan. The boys have so much fun with their cabin cousins!!

In addition to the usual cabin activities, the boys found lots of fun things to spend their time doing.

They LOVE to ride their dump trucks down the hill to the shed.

We also managed to do some fishing.  Brandon got his very own fishing equipment from Dave for Christmas and he was so EXCITED to use it!!

We started out at State Line Reservior but it was so cold and windy there that the fishing was no good. So we went to our favorite little fishing stream at China Meadows where we always seem to have good luck.  Kyle is ALWAYS the first to catch a fish.  Everytime we go there he puts his line in the water (well I help him) and within about 30 seconds (NO JOKE) he catches a fish!!  This time was no exception.

Then within about 15 minutes both Eric and Brandon had each caught a fish and we were good to go home (it was COLD!)  Everyone left happy from the successful fishing trip and when we got home we planted them in our garden which is supposed to help the fruit to grow super large.  We'll see if it works!

Another thing that the boys love to do is to make "smoke sticks".  Dave builds the fire and they find a long stick and blow smoke all over.  Hours of fun for little boys!

The boys have gotten better about finding things to do outside and this trip they decided to build their own secret hideouts in the trees around the cabin.  They were so cute and clever!

And other thing that they love to do is to eat shoot marshmallows with their marshmallow guns!

Dave even couldn't resist getting in on the action.  He had a lot of fun pegging the boys with marshmallows!

It was a fun trip despite the cold weather and luckily we were still able to be outside a lot.  Can't wait for a summer filled with many more fun cabin trips.
