Hawthorn Family Fun Run

This morning we participated in the boys school's Family Fun Run.  The weather was a bit chilly but we were not going to complain at all since last year we had a blizzard the morning of the run and had to run in the snow and much colder temps.

 

Brandon & Eric were determined to win and they both ended up getting first place for their grades in the 1 mile run.  Kyle as always, ran like a machine and they even put him down as the first 4 year old to cross the finish line.  They had all sorts of fun things there and as always, made it a really fun event!

Repurpose of the old office

We have an office downstairs that we no longer use.  Once we finally got with the program and went wireless I went out and found an old desk on KSL which I redid and now use in the family room for the laptop.

That left us with a completely useless office downstairs that was just a catch all for stuff. So last week I decided to repurpose the room to make it into a play/game room for the boys. Really, I was just tired of LEGOs, games, art supplies and puzzles all over my kitchen table all the time. So I pulled the old kitchen table that was against the wall as the old computer desk into the middle of the room and told the boys that was their new place to play.

It was useable but not what I would call pretty with all the mess left behind so today I went to Ikea, got some new, easy to build bookshelves and made this wall into not only a useable, but a much nicer looking and better organized space.

Yeah!  All the puzzles and games are out of my kitchen cupboard and the boys have a place to display and keep their stuff.  I am sure this will fill up fast.  I am happy to have this space used again and to not have LEGOs all over the house!

Brandon's 2nd Pinewood Derby

Tonight Brandon participated in his 2nd Pinewood Derby.  He designed the car, helped Dave to cut the shape and then did all the sanding, painting and decorating himself.

He won the "Fastest Looking Car" trophy!!  Great job Brandon!

My baby is FOUR!

Dave has been out of town for the week for work so we waited until today to have a little family birthday party for Kyle.  Can't believe my "baby" is FOUR!  His nickname has always been "baby" so Dave and I still call him that.  The sweetest thing is that he tells us that we can still call him baby even though he is a big boy now.

The best part of the whole night was after we sang Happy Birthday to Kyle we told him to make a wish and so he said "I wish I could fly to the moon with my own jet pack."  He has always talked about wanting to have a jet pack when he grows up.  We have no idea where that came from but it's something he talks about often.  Well it just so happens, that I got him a jet pack for his birthday!!!

Happy Birthday BABY!  And remember, daddy says he will always call you baby, even when you are 60 years old!

The Built-Ins are FINALLY DONE!!

I have been working on a HUGE home improvement project for the past month.  And I have to admit, it has been horribly stressful for me.  I have shed a lot of tears over this project worrying over whether it would turn out right.  And I mean a LOT of tears!!  I actually really enjoyed the design and construction part.  My friend Alena and I built these shelves all by ourselves and that was fun.  BUT the finish work ... not so fun.  Luckily, my sweet husband jumped in and helped out with the sanding and my best friend happens to have a professional painter for a husband and he is such a nice guy that he did the rest of the finish work and the painting to make them turn out pretty.

And here is the room FINALLY DONE!  I am so happy with the results and even more happy to have it done and not have to stress over it anymore.

I definitely learned my lesson from this project and promised Dave that I will stick to smaller projects from here on out.  And I really do mean that.  But that being said, do you think it would be a bad time to tell him that want a chop saw for Mother's Day? :)

Celebrating Kyle!

Today we went down to Trafalga in Lehi to celebrate Kyle's upcoming 4th birthday!

Our best friends, the Danielson's went down there with us to play.

We did mini golfing, laser tag, climbed the rock wall, rode the carousel and some other fun rides.

Then we went to Golden Corral for some lunch ...

 ... and of course, desserts, desserts and more desserts!!

Kyle's best friend Alex got him the BEST birthday present ... a daddy spot!!!

Hunting Easter Eggs

Today was a beautiful day for our annual Easter Egg hunt at Randy & Melissa's house.

The kids LOVE hunting for eggs.  This year there were even gold and silver money eggs.

 And of course, gorging afterwards!

Spring Break in Moab

This week is the boys Spring Break. 
On Monday morning, we loaded up the 4-wheelers and headed down to Moab.

We rented a condo with the Sintay's which made for really fun accomodations. 

We arrived there first so the boys spent some time waiting for their cousins to arrive.

Yeah COUSINS!!!

On Tuesday morning we loaded up the 4-wheelers and the Rhino and did the Steel Bender Trail. 

  

We also did a lot of fun hikes and playing around on the rocks.

Then on Wednesday we did the Gemini Bridges Trail. 
It was easy 4-wheeling and some beautiful scenery.

And the kids all got to get new Moab T-shirts which they thought was so cool!

It was a really fun trip!!
